EMA Approves Trinidad’s First Clean Production Project

In 2009, DGE with its team partner ICF International successfully completed the environmental impact assessment (EIA) and quantitative risk assessment for a chlor-alkali plant planned for Couva, Trinidad. This project received CEC approval from the EMA amid protest against other proposed industrial developments in the nearby area.  It is the first clean technology (i.e., “green”) industrial project designed and approved in Trinidad and Tobago and is one of the nation’s first forays into the inorganic chemicals industry. The EIA prepared for this project featured a state-of-the science air quality analysis that provided insight for the planned US EPA adoption of a one-hour NO2 standard.
